Last night was the boys' 2 month check-up and they got their first shots. They took them like champs! In this pic you can see their cool band-aids. It's nice the way they do it - one parent holds the baby down (Mike did Logan, and I did Caleb), there's a nurse on the left and a nurse on the right, and they give shots at the same time so it doesn't have to be dragged out. Both Logan and Caleb did the 'scream without taking a breath' cry - Logan's already done that quite a bit when he's gotten really upset about something, but that was a first for Caleb. But, they both recovered very quickly after the shots were done. The nurses said they were also impressed at how well Mike and I did. :) I was a little worried that thanks to the shots they'd have a fussy night last night, but they slept great - phew! Hopefully today is good too.
Both boys did great with the rest of the check-up as well. Nobody peed on the doctor and there wasn't any fussing. I'd be cautious if I was the doctor, I mean the diapers are off and he's right in firing range checking things out. I suppose he's had it happen plenty and it's just part of the job.
The boys are healthy and growing! We already knew that ourselves, but it was nice to put some numbers with that and get the approval of the doctor. Here's the stats:
Logan is 9lbs 10oz (5th percentile), and 22.5 inches long (15th percentile); Caleb is 9lbs 14oz (5th percentile), and 22.25 inches long (10th percentile). What I can't quite fathom is that they are the size I was when I was born (at 3 weeks early, I might add...) - I really can't imagine having one of them inside right now!
So, yes, they are on the small side for their age right now, but that's normal for twins and they have been eating and gaining good, so there is no concern.
They keep on smiling more and more, and Logan is 'talking' lots. It's so much fun! Last night after the doctor's appointment we had a church care group get together at another couple's house. Caleb and Logan were in their car seats in the living room with the couple's 5 year old twin girls who were watching a Veggie Tales movie. I went in there for something and Caleb was totally watching the movie! Mike had noticed that earlier too. I mean, he was completely concentrated on the tv in a different way than I've ever noticed before. I guess we're going to have to be careful since he's already getting hooked. :)
Six years ago tonight Mike asked me to marry him! Boy, time flies... I knew it had to be coming at some point, but didn't know exactly when, so he did manage to surprise me. We had talked about marriage and looked at rings, and even started looking at houses for after we got married. We had found a house we liked, but I knew there was no way my dad would let me buy a house with a guy unless we were at least engaged! So, Mike talked with my dad, popped the question to me, then we moved ahead with buying the house, and 4 1/2 months later we were married and living in the cute little house where we spent the first 3 years of our marriage. A cute little house that we do still own and have been very blessed to always have good renters in. :)
