Well, our winter weekend getaway is over - now what are we going to look forward to?! :) We had a GREAT weekend away at Double JJ Ranch with our big boys. Friday afternoon we dropped Levi off at Grandma and Grandpa VanBeek's - actually, we worked it out that we had enough time to drop all three boys off for a bit, go grab a cup of coffee for a little date, then come back to get Caleb and Logan and then head up to Double JJ. LOVED the fact that it's only a little over an hour away - really wasn't in the mood for any more drive time than that.
My parent's came up as well and got there soon after us. After we got checked in and settled, we headed over to Country Dairy (a farm) for supper. It's only a few miles away, and they have a pizza shoppe and deli. I'd really like to get back there with the kids for a tour when the weather is nicer! After supper we got to the indoor waterpark at Double JJ as quickly as possible - the boys were SOOOO excited. (For those of you that have been to Great Wolf, the indoor waterpark there is a little nicer, but we still had plenty of fun here.)
Bedtime in the hotel didn't go too bad. It was on the later side and the boys had played pretty good in the waterpark. Mike didn't have any trouble falling asleep - he had been awake since before 1am to plow snow!
The next morning, after a nice breakfast buffet with a gorgeous view of the countryside, we headed over to the animal area. After some trudging in the snow we found the small petting farm, and the boys got to ride a horse! I thought sure they were going to see the horse and change their minds, but they both did it without any fear whatsoever!
We then headed over to the snow tubing hill. What a BEAUTIFUL day for it! Both Caleb and Logan really enjoyed this as well. They did several runs and then Logan said he was cold so he went inside to sit with my mom. Caleb, Mike, my dad, and I did a few more runs and then it was time for a late lunch, Caleb could have kept going all day, though! It's so much fun to see them having so much fun. :) They did have a tow rope to get back up the hill, but several times we decided to walk it and get a little extra exercise.
After lunch it was time to head back to the waterpark again! This time we went down the slides a bunch of times with the boys, mostly Caleb. Logan would prefer to just swim, Caleb likes the rides. The night before one of the lifeguards up by the slides was being a stickler about height and so the boys didn't go, but we tried again on Saturday. :) (They had different measuring spots - by the entrance, by the rides, etc. - and none of them were the same. On some Caleb was tall enough, on others he wasn't.) Anyways, we loved the rides and again, it's so much fun to see that smile of pure joy on your child's face!
Saturday evening my parent's headed back home. We stayed in the waterpark a little longer then headed back to our room, had supper there, and got to bed at a fairly decent time. We were all pretty wiped out!
Sunday morning it was breakfast, some more waterpark time, then home. Levi was happy to see me! :) He was supposed to take a nap after we picked him up, but he wouldn't sleep - I guess he just needed a "mommy fix". Then we rushed off to church so I could go to a meeting. Caleb and Logan did not do well during the first part of the service (can you say TIRED?), but then they did very well during the sermon. Logan had LOTS of questions, especially when we did communion.
As the boys get older I just love observing their different personalities, skills, abilities, preferences, etc. This weekend it was neat to see how both Caleb and Logan had fun with all of the stuff we did, but there were definitely differences.
One last note about Levi and the formula we're giving him. It does still seem to be helping. He'll still spit up a little, but I haven't been wiping up any big puddles. For some reason this formula tends to get clumps (it's the rice starch in it, I guess??), and for those of you in my family, when the bottle gets clogged it's like milking a cow with mastitis... :)
He's got teeth coming in like crazy! Thankfully they don't seem to be bothering him.
