eventful

Eventful day here at the Krol's!  First, Mike ran the Riverbank Run 25k.  Weather was a little iffy for spectators, but really didn't end up bad at all.  Mike was running with my brothers, and my sis-in-law and I (and the kids) were able to see all the guys at almost the halfway point.  They were pretty much still together at that point in the race and at a very good pace.  As soon as they went past we hurried back to the car and quick got to downtown GR so we could see them finish.  (Quite a feat for two moms, four kids, and lots of traffic, closed streets, etc.)  At the finish the guys were no longer together - my brother Mike finished in just under two hours, Eric in just over two hours, and Mike finished in 2hr 20min.  Overall he is very happy with that time and I am so proud of him.  Of course the initial goal was to finish in under two hours, but due to shin splints he hasn't even been able to run in about a month.  Poor guy was in obvious pain at the end, and I guess it was his hips, not even the shin splints.  I didn't get a photo at the halfway point because I was jumping up and down cheering, and at the finish I took video clips, which I'll try to get posted later.

My dad also ran the 5k race and did very well.  Unfortunately, his race started at 7am and there was no way I could get out there with the boys that early to see him run.

So, we finally get back home and it's naptime for the boys.  They did very well considering Caleb didn't nap at all yesterday, they got to bed late last night, and got up early this morning.  You'd think they would just zonk out for a good solid nap...  A little while after naptime I heard Caleb fussing a little bit, and it just sounded like a slightly different cry than normal so I thought maybe I should peek in their room.  So I look in the room and there's one empty crib.  I find Caleb on the floor in between the wall and his crib with his leg caught in the slats of his crib.  I think he must have been there at least a few minutes because his leg looked like he was losing some circulation, but thankfully nothing major.  Poor thing!  We have no idea how we didn't hear a loud thump or anything.  I sat up with him for quite awhile (of course afraid to put him in his crib...) but he wouldn't fall asleep.  Eventually we put him back in his crib, but he didn't sleep at all (great).  And when we went in to get the boys later, Caleb was straddling his crib rails.  Not sure if he had been sitting like that for awhile, or if we just caught him at the right time before he fell down.  Tonight at bedtime when we were still in the room he started to put his foot over the edge and got a pretty firm talking to about it, so we'll see how things go.  I'm monitoring the room fairly close until they fall asleep...

Backing up in the week now, we had some great weather for outside playtime.  One day I set out a couple buckets of water for the boys the play with, they loved it!  Kept them occupied for awhile.  I just wish you all could see every little thing they do, they're so cute.  When the buckets were a little low on water I filled them up with my watering can.  Then after a bucket got dumped out, Logan came right over to get my watering can and tried to fill up his bucket himself.  And the looks on their faces when they tried to drink out of the buckets, oh so cute.

A couple nights ago, Mike (and the boys) put together a wagon they got at their first Christmas.  I was very curious to see how they would do riding in the wagon (if they would actually sit down good or not).  They did great and loved it.  Mike took them all over the yard and they did not want to quit.  They especially enjoyed going fast down hills.

Speaking of things they love to do and don't want to quit...  Oh, the life of a toddler - when you're having tons of fun and you have to stop what you're doing it's like your world is just crashing in.  Drama!  Having to come in from playing outside, having to get out of the wagon...things like that.  One minute everyone's having fun, the next minute there are two very sad little boys.  And by very sad I mean screaming and throwing a bit of a tantrum (that's more Caleb than Logan).

Another interesting thing I've observed lately - (they've actually done this here and there for quite a while, but it's just more consistent now) they know pretty much all the things they're not supposed to touch or mess with.  They will look at something and say "no-no" and then go right ahead and touch it.  Or after we tell them "no" for something, they'll say "no-no" and go on doing what they weren't supposed to do.  At times I get a little frustrated that they obviously know better, but still don't do what they are supposed to, but then I realized, are we as adults really all that different??

The boys say "doggie" all the time.  I have got to catch it on camera because it's one of the cutest sounding things.  Logan says "ball" alot.  And I mean ALOT.  More than I can come up with a response to every time, but many times he's saying so insistently like he expects a response from me.  They both say "amen" ("me-me") when we pray, and many times before we pray - they've got it figured out that they get their milk after we say "amen" so they're trying to speed up the process.  :)

  1. that is crazy about caleb getting out of the crib. you hear about kids doing that all the time, but it seems to never have occurred to either one of my kids. i know it shouldn't be, but your description was so funny to me...
