Last night was Mike's family's Christmas party. Beginning and middle were not good with the boys, but we ended on a good note - phew! At first I seriously did not know how we were going to make it through the evening. Both were cranky and then Caleb became absolutely inconsolable. I was almost in tears myself because I have never had a totally inconsolable child before and I just did not know what to do! He wasn't tired, he wasn't hungry, he didn't have a dirty diaper, he didn't want to play, he didn't want to be held... I ended up taking his shirt off and then he calmed down - maybe he was hot?? He didn't feel too warm to me, but who knows. He was happy the rest of the night!
(I must say, I think I'm finding two toddlers to be much more taxing than two babies...)
Want a frustrating experience? Try to find shoes for infant or toddler boys! Ugh. There are SOOOO many choices for girls, and practically nothing for boys! If/when we have another child it would certainly be fun to have a girl, but of course the practical side of me looks at how many boys clothes we have...with a singleton boy I should never have to do laundry!! :)
Today is the only day this week that Mike has to be in at work. It's been very nice having him home so much - many hands make light work! :) (He just called that he's on his way home, so a nice short day!)
Just within the last couple weeks or so the boys have become really interested in looking at books. They'll actually sit and look at a book quietly for awhile. It has especially come in handy when changing diapers - for quite some time it's been a challenge to keep their hands out of the way (ahem) and even giving them a toy wouldn't distract enough. But now, they'll just lay there and look at a book! Wonderful!
One more Christmas party tonight and then tomorrow it's off to Chicago for Mike's stepbrother's wedding. I'm ready for things to slow down a bit!
